Director of Choral Activities, David Chin summer 2014 highlights

In June and July 2014, Professor David Chin was invited to conduct choral clinics for several churches in Bintulu and Sibu, Sarawak, East Malaysia. At the same time, he collaborated with renowned baritone Caleb Woo at the piano and performed music by Bach, Mendelssohn, and Duparc during Chinese University of Hong Kong Christian Choir’s concert tour in Malaysia. He was also invited by the International Christian Choral Conductor Society to be the lecturer, conductor, and masterclass instructor at the East Malaysia Choral Conducting Workshop, where he worked with 57 conductors from various schools and churches, and the Singapore and Malaysia Choral Music Camp, where he conducted more than 180 singers from various churches. In mid July, he was in Medan, Indonesia for a week to teach and perform at the 22nd World Sacred Music Conference. In August, he made his Bach debut in his home country, Malaysia, where he performed and lectured on a cantata and motet by J.S. Bach, a collaboration with the Yin Qi Choir, soloists, and members from the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia. Prior to returning to Rochester, he stopped at Hong Kong for a week, taught a 3-day conducting workshop and performed a Bach cantatas lecture concert with renowned musicians.
