Men's Golf Take Ninth Place at NCAA Atlantic/East Regional

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan men's golf wrapped up their year with a solid showing at the 2016 NCAA Atlantic/East Regional tournament on Wednesday at Timber Banks Golf Club.

The Redhawks, who came into the three-round tournament ranked No. 7 in the East Region, finished the regional event as the fifth best team in the East.

Sophomore transfer Michael Young led the Redhawks as the top performer by placing tied for 19th overall. Young led the team in the second and third rounds with the lowest scores as he finished with a 227 (80, 71, 76).

Matthew Van Niekerk finished tied for 26th as he was just two strokes behind young with a three-round score of 229 (74, 77, 78). Tom Kolb was also just a few shots behind the leaders as the fellow junior wrapped up the tournament with a 232 (79, 75, 78).

Both Alec Kunzwiler and Caleb Edwards were tied for 73rd as they both shot a 239.

As a team, Roberts Wesleyan scored a 921 (312, 300, 309), which was just one stroke behind both California (Pa.) and West Chester, who tied for seventh place.

Fellow East Coast Conference member St. Thomas Aquinas won the tournament with a score of 897 (306, 290, 301).  The Spartans' Christopher Gentle took medalist honors with a three-round score of 213 (77, 64, 72).

- The last time Young played in the top five with Roberts Wesleyan was on the same course at Le Moyne's Mike Bello Spring Invitational in early April.
- Coming in ninth overall is a program-best as the Redhawks placed 15th in last year's tournament.
