Tyrel Dixon ’16 (Criminal Justice) - 2016 Alumni Association Senior Award Recipient

Each year, the Roberts Wesleyan College Alumni Association honors one graduating senior with the Senior Alumni Association Award.  This award recognizes an exceptional new graduate and is a celebration of all new alumni.  The recipient is chosen based upon a written application and interview. We recognize this individual at a special Celebration of Excellence Chapel and at Commencement.

This year’s honor was given to Tyrel Dixon ’16 (Criminal Justice). Tyrel was chosen for his leadership and mentoring roles with students and strong desire to impact communities for good through his criminal justice training.  Tyrel was involved in many ways during his Roberts experience, including three years as captain of the Roberts Men’s Basketball team.

Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Mark Concordia, wrote this about Tyrel:

I recently read an article by Gordon MacDonald, chancellor of Denver Seminary. In the article titled, “The Quiet Strength of a Peaceful Leader,” MacDonald described a pastor he once knew as a “peaceful Leader.”  MacDonald wrote, “Jesus said his peace was not compatible with the "world's" view of peace (John 14:27).  He created a movement whose trademarks were humility, compassion, mercy, and a breaking down of barriers that traditionally separated people.  And this movement needed peaceful leaders.”  As I read this, Tye came to mind.  A quiet, peaceful leader who in my opinion is humble, compassionate, and is destined to break down barriers that that divide so many of us today.  Through Tye’s quiet strength, intelligence, and perseverance he made the most of the opportunities he earned.  Tyrel Dixon is sure to be a success in anything he chooses because he is a quite leader who people admire and respect.

Congratulations Tyrel. We look forward to hearing about your positive impact and contributions in the years to come!
