The event was held on Thursday and Friday, April 25-26, 2024, in the Golisano Community Engagement Center from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm each day. In attendance were 40 pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers from schools across the Diocese of Rochester, faculty, and Early Childhood Education students from Roberts Wesleyan University.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the community in offering this professional learning for area early childhood teachers. This professional learning is based in the science of reading and closely aligned with the New York State Department of Education’s recently released series of literacy briefs,” said Dr. Elizabeth Stevens, Associate Professor of Education and Director of the Literacy MED Program. Anna Waiter, a current Literacy MED student and kindergarten teacher at Saint Pius X School, said, “From language comprehension to word recognition, I felt like I gained a wealth of knowledge that I could implement into my own teaching practices.”

This symposium was made possible through gifts from the Bowman family.
