The nursing curriculum, with its emphasis on caring and whole person care, is built on a broad base of liberal arts and professional knowledge. Clinical practice begins in the junior year and continues for four semesters, culminating in the senior practicum, a concentrated experience in a setting of particular interest to the student.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
You will begin taking nursing courses in the first semester of your sophomore year. Clinical begins in a hospital setting in the first semester of the junior year.
In order to progress into the junior level nursing courses (3000 level courses), students must complete science requirements and achieve a minimum of the following:
- 2.75 Overall GPA
- 2.75 Science GPA
- 2.75 Nursing GPA
Students seeking transfer into the Nursing Program at Roberts Wesleyan College must have a minimum of the following:
- 3.00 Overall GPA
- 3.00 Science GPA
- 3.00 Nursing GPA
Nursing Courses taken in the sophomore year include:
- Principles of Nutrition
- Introduction to Professional Nursing Concepts (if Overall and science GPA requirements are met)
- Health Assessment (if Overall and science GPA requirements are met)
Junior Year
Courses Include:
- Foundations in Nursing Practice
- Adult Health Concepts I
- Psychosocial Health Concepts
- Health Assessment
- Pathophysiology & Pharmacology I
- Maternal & Newborn Health Concepts
- Evidence-based Practice in Nursing
- Older Adult Health Concepts
Senior Year
In your senior year you will complete a final Practicum where you work for 128 hours with a Registered Professional Nurse in an area of interest to you.
