College – Creative Writing Piece

College. Often thought that this place of obscurity (yet understanding) is one where people are able to find their passions. It’s considered the dawn of many dreams. College is to be the place where a dream may not be actualized, but is in its conception.

Look! A child in high school says to his mother, “I don’t know what I want to be!” She says, “That’s fine! You’ll find out in college.”

Watch! There’s a woman who loves what she’s chosen to study in college, or thinks she does. This alumnus goes out into the world, finally a doctor. She realizes the pay is extremely high, until the check actually hits her wallet.

Discern! The sports manager loves his job, but the risks involved may make it difficult for his spouse to be comfortable with their economic standing.

What do people come to college to pursue? Do we arrive to pursue knowledge? Employment? Money? Fame? What happens when everything else backfires? Now, this thinking is not at all meant to shoot down dreams, but propel them forward. A person who fully understands the risks and continues forward has a dream they are willing to stake everything on. Can you stake your success on success? Can you stake your career on your career? If you can lose everything to gain everything you want, you’re more dangerous than the person who’s only willing to lose everything but one.

You may probably sacrifice the one thing others would never sacrifice in all their lifetime. Be willing to be brave! Dreams may fail or succeed. But when your dreams do either, make sure they were well worth it.

Pay attention! “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
