if i had a penny
for every time i said
“i love ____.”
go ahead,
fill the blank.
fill my bank.
pennies, enough to make me rich.
yet the more i say it,
the more the value declines,
the more in my heart i try to fit.
i have so much to love,
yet none from above.
pennies fill my pockets
with change of uncertainty.
can i trust its value?
they claim it’s for eternity.
yet, i’ve experienced the loss,
i’ve experienced that cost.
i need a new currency,
one that values a penny.
i hear the call to invest,
to take the weight off my chest.
i’ve decided in heaven,
who loves more than men.
