Among hundreds of people standing together praising God, I sat on the floor, halfway back in the middle of a row of old chairs, crying. I’d spent time crying before, mourning what I’ve lost, but this time was different. I felt broken but whole, empty of myself but full of the Spirit. It was an amazing feeling, and I want it every day of my life.

Days later, I still wonder how I got there; it must have been the work of God, because it doesn’t make sense. How, on Friday, February 10, did I decide to leave the NCCAA nationals track meet to drive to Kentucky with two women I don’t really know? I’m not normally spontaneous, but I know that God nudged my soul to make this right decision.

At Asbury University, I encountered the healing and renewing power of the Holy Spirit. The scene there is nothing special, but the revival is incomprehensible. In response to skeptics, evangelist Nick Hall shared on Instagram this week, “these meetings have been incredibly unsensational, non-emotional, no lights, smoke, or charismatic voices. On the contrary, this is humility, repentance, prayer and sitting under the authority of Scripture. The altars are wet with tears of hearts broken by the love of God.” At the Asbury Revival, self-interest gives way to repentance and holy praise.

At one point, college students were called to the front to be prayed over. When it was over, a girl from another school I had stood beside spoke prophetic and astonishingly relevant words over my life. She prayed for me, and I never even knew her name. It was all about God, not about her.

God is working in the lives of our generation and calling us who call ourselves Christians back to holiness. How will we respond?
