Freshman 411 – November Activities

0 0

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the grooving and moving Freshman 411! As we inch closer and closer towards the end of the semester, you might find yourself struggling to maintain a healthy relationship between schoolwork and self-care, or worse, drowning in a sea of stress. Now, I can very easily pull my therapist hat from the closet and give a lecture on the importance of upholding a good school/life balance (something I will readily do, as it truly is important); however, I want to instead share some fun, lighthearted ways you can relieve stress throughout the month of November.

First Free Fridays

Every first Friday of the month, admission to local museums and art galleries is free or half-off. As a broke college student, I find that these free nights provide a great way to explore the art scene in Rochester for little to no cost. A list of every place that observes this wonderful tradition can be found here: http://www.firstfridayrochester.org/events-2/locations/

Painting/Crafts

In the same vein, painting or drawing either alone or with friends is a great way to relieve stress. Studies have shown that most people who try art as a form of therapy or stress relief experience significant reductions in cortisol levels, not to mention how fun it can be with friends. Whether you switch every 10 minutes, try to paint a character from memory, or follow along with a Bob Ross episode, painting can be a wonderful escape from your stress.

Theater/Movies

Whether you’re a fan of musical theater or not, going to the movies or seeing a live performance is a wonderful way to distract yourself for a few hours. If you’re at all interested, Hamilton is coming up with shows from 11/1-11/13. Tickets range in price, but the show is slowly becoming a classic, so don’t miss out! Local theaters provide a student discount (bring your ID!), so you can enjoy some of the new releases at a discounted price.
