Michael Cummings, Cheeseburger Contest Champ: Where is He Now?

0 0

The lights were bright. The music was hype. The crowd was pumped. The weather was, eh, lovely (who doesn’t love a downpour that cuts an event short?).

What I’m talking about, of course, is the annual 2022 Miner Hall Cheeseburger Contest, where two men from each Miner floor compete to see who can down the most McDonald’s Big Macs. The prize at the finish line? A glorious belt, which the victor gets to keep in his room for the rest of the year. Recently, I got to catch up with the most recent winner of this great honor, freshman Michael Cummings. I asked all the questions I’m sure you all have been salivating over.

NM: Take us back to when you were competing in the cheeseburger eating contest. What was going through your head?

MC: Honestly, I’m not sure. My main focus was not throwing up and hopefully winning.

NM: Ah, I see, a winning mentality. Now, this begs the question, who did you look up to to get through it?

MC: I would have to say my roommate. He was my designated hype man.

NM: Wow, I wish I had that kind of a mentor. How did the cheeseburger contest change you?

MC: To be honest, I met some new people afterward who knew me as the “cheeseburger guy.”

NM: I’m so jealous! Now, one final question: What advice would you give future freshmen who want to rise to this challenge?

MC: Just don’t get sick, and think about how you will feel having your own belt.

If I were a freshman, this interview would definitely have me hyped about participating in this signature event of Miner Hall. But I digress. Now we know what has become of Michael Cummings – how this experience shaped his life and will continue to shape it for semesters to come. To any Miner men out there reading this, I hope Michael’s story will inspire you to throw your hat in the ring for events like the Shamrock Shake mile or the Mr. Miner competition.
