Philia by Sydney Elmore

there is no love around me,

how can there be when there’s no one by my side?

i search

and search

and still i’m left standing on my own.

happy couples walk by

mocking me;

illuminating the one thing that i don’t have,

the one thing that is absent in my life

love.

i stand defeated

no one to love.

no one to receive love from.

i’m left hopeless

joyless

loveless.

i lean on my sister’s shoulder

i cry into her chest.

i rant and ramble to my friends

they listen despite the same old ‘love’ story.

i laugh

i cry

i smile

i love

with them.

stories say that love

is found searching in the fairy tale ending.

but,

love is more than just a partner by your side.

it’s found with the people around you,

a love you don’t need to search far for.
