The Holiday Transition

0 0

Picture this.  Halloween has officially ended and it is now November 1st.  All of the fun and spooky decorations will now begin their descent back into designated bins to be stored away until next year.  But while looking through the assortment of holiday decorations, which bin will be grabbed next?  The Thanksgiving one or the Christmas one?

Determining which holiday transition is most appropriate has become quite troublesome.  Some choose to start embracing Christmas as soon as possible, while others prefer to let Thanksgiving have its own time to shine.  There are points to be made arguing both sides of this topic.

In the grand scheme of things, there are realistically very few Thanksgiving decorations specific to the holiday, excluding the cornucopia.  For the most part, Thanksgiving decor is synonymous with general Fall decor.  Not to mention, human beings tend to have a short attention span when it comes to holiday decorating.  We crave frequent change in that department.  All of these factors create a recipe for premature Christmas decorating.

In order to fully get an idea of the thought process behind those who participate in early Christmas decor, there are some questions that must be answered.  Do the people in question actually celebrate Thanksgiving?  This may be why they’ve chosen to opt out of that decor.  Do they have a strong desire for the warm and cozy aesthetic that often accompanies Christmas preparations?  Perhaps they long for the return of layered clothing and hot chocolate.  Or maybe, just maybe, they just like to put up their colorful lights and festive decorations as soon as possible.  Seasonal depression is a thing, after all.  Until these questions are answered, it remains unclear whether or not society can come together on this topic.
