Will It Be a Killer Season?

The long-awaited second season of the show Chucky finally premiered on October 5, 2022.  The first episode opens up nearly right as the finale of the first season ended. Andy is driving a truck full of Good Guy dolls, held at gunpoint by a Tiffany doll, but regains control and drives off a cliff, believing Kyle dead. Jake is taken away from his hometown and boyfriend Devon to live with his new foster parents.

Jake and Devon are on a video call when another video appears on their screens. A stranger is trick or treating at Lexy’s house, where her little sister opens the door and unknowingly lets Chucky in. Devon calls the police to make sure nobody gets hurt, but can’t mention Chucky. The police find no evidence of an intruder.  When the young girl admits to letting someone in because they needed to use the bathroom, Lexy has a minor meltdown, knowing it was Chucky.

Caroline (Lexy’s sister) is in therapy for the trauma of last season and insisting that Chucky is real. The therapist gives her a doll as exposure therapy, and she looks familiar… Jake and Devon reunite to catch up with Lexy, who is sure that the doll looks evil. They realize that it looks like Chucky’s bride, Tiffany/Jennifer.

The next day, Chucky shows up with Jake’s foster brother, who he forced to make a bomb to use on all of them. It backfires though, with only Chucky and the little brother getting hit. The episode closes out with Jake, Devon, and Lexy being sent out to a home for troubled kids.

Was this a good starting episode? I personally think that it was pretty rushed. The truck crash happened in the beginning;  barely any of the episode chronicles the separation of Jake and Devon. Lexy and Caroline’s characters were the only ones not rushed in for plot development reasons, so their parts were honestly my favorite. Despite the episode being a bit of a letdown, I still remain hopeful for the rest of the season.
