Student Spotlight: Taylor Bynoe– Junior ‘19

What is the best thing about studying Sports Management?

I like that Roberts is a small school; but the opportunity to work in the athletic department is huge. It's great to have the experience to work closely and learn from the athletics staff and coaches. I am enjoying seeing firsthand what it is like to be a part of a sports management team.

What is your Dream Job? How is Roberts helping achieve this?

My dream job is to be an athletic director of a high school. I have had a chance to sit down with Bob Segave, athletic director, to learn about what his job entails. Having a greater understanding of the AD role has helped shape my career path.

What has been your favorite course here at Roberts?

Philosophical and Ethical Issues with Dr. Koehl was my favorite course. The course really makes you think and look at life differently from both a Christian standpoint and an secular viewpoint.

What is your favorite thing about being on the basketball team at Roberts?

Bringing the school together - Athletes, student body, and the campus community. For example, President Porterfield is a HUGE fan and having her come to the games and talk with us is awesome! She is a great supporter of not only women’s basketball but the entire student body, clubs and athletics.

Where are you from?

New Jersey.

Who is your favorite sports team and athlete?

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers professional basketball team.

What is your favorite food?

Pasta, I can eat it forever!

Being from New Jersey, do you like the Rochester favorite, Garbage Plate?

Yes, but I try not to eat them a lot because they aren’t the most nutritious. But it definitely falls in the comfort food category for me!

What does it mean to you to have the student body come to games?

It gives me a reason to play. It’s a reminder that you are playing for the name that’s on the front of the jersey not the number on the back.

How did it feel to make a difference in participating in the Pirate Toy Fund?

It’s exciting to give back to the community. Being able to make a kid’s Christmas better is a feeling you can’t describe -- it is so humbling and rewarding.

Faculty Feedback:

William H. Todd, M.S., Associate Professor of Marketing; Intership Faculty Supervisor

“Taylor Bynoe is a special young lady! While typically quiet in the classroom, she exemplifies the student athlete we appreciate in our business program; she brings a passionate approach to both her basketball and academics. She has exhibited leadership in the classroom and on the court. Her caring attitude is evident to all, which is demonstrated in a variety of volunteer works.”
