All In for Making an Impact: Students Volunteer for MLK Day of Service
Roberts is a place where character education leads. Every year, students from local Rochester area colleges and universities volunteer at local organizations in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. On Saturday, Feb. 1, students from Roberts Wesleyan University, Nazareth University, University of Rochester, and local SUNY schools volunteered for the RochesterCares’ annual MLK Day of Service at Agape Haven of Abundance on Driving Park Ave.

A total of 16 Roberts students cleaned and worked at the food pantry and then sorted and organized toys that will be given to children in the local Rochester community. “It was so great to see them leading with character and working alongside students from other area universities serving in the Rochester community,” said Associate Dean of Student Leadership and Engagement Celeste Donleavy '04, 09 (Childhood and Special Education, MS in Education, Literacy Specialist).
After the area college program at the Stardust Ballroom in honor of Dr. King, Roberts students continued their day of service at another meaningful location - the Pirate Toy Fund. Given Roberts recently won the NCAA DII Award of Excellence for their work with this organization, it goes without saying that the Pirate Toy Fund has a special place in many students' hearts.
