The first year student embarks on an exciting journey through our foundations' courses: Art 102 (Drawing), Art 103 (Two-Dimensional Design), Art 104 (Three-Dimensional Design), and Art 105 (Digital Media Art). This sequential course of study is designed to provide students with essential knowledge and technical skill development which leads to more advanced courses.
Here we explore the nuances of visual language investigating conceptual and technical problem-solving within an open-concept program. Students are challenged to develop a rigorous scholarly approach to their discipline and a hearty work-ethic that will enable them to be successful in a variety of concentrations.
Foundations courses in our Department are taught by seasoned professional faculty that nurtures creativity and skill in our students. As in all our courses, open dialogue between faculty and the student is encouraged and enables the student to take ownership of their development as individual artists.
This foundational program is the heart-and-soul of our program - preparing students for advanced study.
