"I remain extremely grateful for the opportunity my scholarships have given me to do better. Every day I am here at Roberts, I am reminded that all things work together for your good if you allow God to lead.”

I am from Bermuda, an island off the coast of the United States. I often say my home looks like this: a mom who is strong, hardworking and devoted to God, and a father who is strong, hardworking, but runs away from God.

Running away has caused my father to make rash decisions, landing him in jail twice. The first time my dad went to jail, I was eleven and about to start middle school. To the amazement of those around me, I was able to cope by pouring myself into my faith, my schoolwork, and my favorite sport, soccer.

This was only the beginning of the trials I would have to face, yet with every trial came the strength of God. This strength has opened many doors for me, one of those being the chance to attend Roberts. It is the perfect school for me, with great academics and even better people. But I would not be here without the scholarship money provided by the Roberts community. It was truly a blessing to me and to my family when my education became financially possible.

Although I know things still aren’t always great back home, I stay focused because of everything my mom has done to help me get where I am. I still call her when I get an A on a paper, after we win a soccer game, or to share with her about my Monday night bible study. And we both remain extremely grateful for the opportunity my scholarships have given me to do better.

Every day I am here at Roberts, I am reminded that all things work together for your good if you allow God to lead.
