Immigration Support

Main content

Immigration regulations pertaining to F-1 students have undergone temporary adjustments due to COVID-19. These exemptions are nuanced and can change at any time. The Designated School Officials (DSOs) in International Engagement undergo specific training to interpret immigration regulations and the temporary changes that enable F-1 students to study in this time of virtual classes and changing schedules.

DSOs receive updates about immigration regulations directly from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). We make sure to communicate to F-1 students about any changes as soon as we receive information from official government sources.

Please only refer to our office for official immigration policy. News articles and well-meaning friends or family can unintentionally give inaccurate or out-of-date information, so please contact us directly with any questions. Each one of your situations are unique, so it is important to talk with someone in our office before taking action that could negatively impact your F-1 status. We are here to make sure you have clear information and support you in making wise, informed decisions.
