2016-2017 Student Catalog | Academic Policies & Procedures

Registration

M.A. and M.Div. students enrolled in the three integrated courses that make up each level of the Core curriculum (BHT/BIB/PSF) will be considered as full time for that semester. Following completion of the Core curriculum, as determined by the program of study, their status will be dependent upon the number of credits for which they are registered. Full-time status is equivalent to nine credits distributed across all three terms of any given semester (not counting any repeated coursework). This 9-credit load is required for students to receive the need-based, academic, and endowed scholarships provided by the Seminary.

Registration for BHT/BIB/PSF 511NE Core course will be completed for incoming students by the Seminary staff. Registration for each subsequent Core class and most post-Core courses can be completed online at R-Serve, after reviewing course selections with the coordinator of academic planning or your faculty advisor. Exceptions to this are non-classroom courses such as independent or directed studies which can be registered for by completing the Application for Credit for Non-Classroom Course.

It is best for returning students to complete the registration process prior to the close of the previous semester.  The last day to add a class and still be eligible for financial aid is Friday of the first week of the semester.  See “Tuition and Aid Reversal Schedule” section in this catalog for courses dropped after registration.

Due to the foundational nature and intense workload of Core courses, students may not enroll in post-Core courses concurrently with Core courses without special approval via the Accelerated Program application (see “Accelerated Programs” section of this catalog). Students who choose to enroll in post-Core courses prior to beginning Core, or students who opt to interrupt their Core studies for whatever reason, are not allowed to accumulate more than 12 post-Core credit hours prior to completion of all Core program requirements without approval via the Student Petition form. The maximum load for any one post-Core semester (fall or spring) without petition is 15 credit hours. A student in good standing may petition the vice president and dean to take up to 18 credits in any one post-Core semester.
