Requirements for Bachelor's Degrees

Academic Requirements

To qualify for a bachelor's degree conferred by Roberts Wesleyan University, the candidate must present the following:

  1. A minimum of 120 semester hours (some programs require more).
  2. A cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or higher, with no grade less than C- in those courses offered to fulfill the requirements of the major. (Some programs have higher gpa requirements. See individual departments for details.) While a grade of C- is acceptable in the major, the grade point average for all courses in the major must be at least 2.00. (Some programs require both a higher cumulative grade point average and a higher major grade point average. See individual departments for requirements.)
  3. Full acceptance to the major at least one semester before graduation by the faculty of the academic department in which the major is taken.
  4. Submission of the completed Degree Application to the Office of Registration.  Application must be submitted by October 1 for a December completion and by February 15 for a May or August completion.

The University holds one commencement ceremony per year, in May. To participate in the May Commencement ceremony, a student must have the minimum cumulative grade point average required by his/her degree program at the end of the fall semester preceding the Commencement ceremony. Students must be within nine semester hours or twelve practicum hours by the end of the spring semester and have plans to complete all degree requirements by the end of the summer in order to participate in commencement. Students completing degree requirements in a fall semester will participate in the following May's commencement ceremony. The degree will not be conferred until all requirements have been completed. The College confers degrees three times per year: on the last Saturday in May, the last Saturday in August, and the last Saturday in December. A student's degree will be posted on the first conferral date occurring after the completion of all course work and degree requirements.

Students have only one opportunity to participate in Commencement ceremonies.  If a student is eligible to participate in a given Commencement, they must participate in that Commencement and not wait for a later Commencement date.

Diplomas are not issued until all academic requirements and financial obligations have been fulfilled.

Once a degree has been conferred, the academic transcript and GPA are frozen.  Subsequent course work and grades will be applied to a new transcript. Any requests for updates or changes to the first transcript (such as grade changes) will be denied.
