Directed Study
A Directed Study gives a student the opportunity to study material in a mode other than through regularly scheduled courses. The Directed Study is designed and closely supervised by a faculty member. It covers the same material as the equivalent course. Students must consult with faculty members for assistance in registering for a directed study.
The minimum number of student-instructor consultations shall be four, plus twice the number of semester hours granted, for example:
Semester Hours | Number of consultation hours | |||||
1 | 4+2= | 6 | ||||
2 | 4+4= | 8 | ||||
3 | 4+6= | 10 |
No more than 10 percent of the minimum requirements for the major or the total program may be met as Directed Study and Independent Study combined.
Prerequisites for Directed Study are as follows:
- Completion of the Directed Study form.
- A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the discipline.
- Approval of the Department in which the study is to be taken.
- Permission from the student's advisor, the course instructor, the Department Chair, and the Registrar.
Please note: A Directed Study incurs a $120.00 Directed Study fee.
