3+4 RWC-UB Chemistry-PharmD Agreement
3+4 RWC-UB Chemistry(or Biochemistry)-PharmD Agreement
The cooperative pharmacy program with the University at Buffalo (UB) consists of three years at Roberts Wesleyan College (RWC) and four years at UB thereby allowing students to complete both the B.S. and the Pharm.D. degrees in seven years instead of the traditional eight. In the RWC portion of the program, the students complete 99 semester hours which includes the majority of the requirements for the Chemistry (or Biochemistry) major (see below). During the first year at UB, students will take 21 hours of science and pharmacy course work that will transfer back to RWC to complete the B.S. in Chemistry or Biochemistry. The student is eligible to graduate from Roberts Wesleyan College only after the RWC program and the first-year courses at the University of Buffalo are completed and transferred back to Roberts Wesleyan College. For more specific details, contact RWC's Chemistry-Pre-Pharmacy Advisor, Dr. Jason Taylor, at 585.594.6310.
SPECIFICS OF THE CHEMISTRY B.S. DEGREE
Minimum Total Hours: 120
Total Liberal Arts Hours Required: 60
General Education Requirements: Per Core Curriculum Requirements list (see General Education Council). Exceptions: the lab science and mathematics proficiency requirements are met through the major; for the 3+4 RWC-UB Chemistry-PharmD Agreement only, SRSE 4100 has a UB Pharmacy substitution.
Minimum Requirements: Overall and major GPA of 2.0; no grade less than C- in the major.
Transfer Requirements: See institutional transfer policies.
Application to the Major: Standard institutional major application should be submitted at the end of the sophomore year.
Major Requirements: 66 hours with a minimum of 43 hours in chemistry as follows:
- Required chemistry courses: CHEM 1110**, 1110 lab, 1120, 1120 lab, 2110, 2110 lab, 2120, 2120 lab, 2210, 2310, 3110, 3110 lab, 3120*, 3120 lab*, 3040, 4020*, 4600*, 4980*;
- One additional 4000-level chemistry course (3 hours): BCHE 3050, CHEM 4060 or 3000;
- CSCI 2010;
- 12 hours of mathematics: MATH 2281**, 2282, and 2283;
- 8 hours of physics: PHYS 1001** and 1002 or PHY 2001** and 2002.
**Passing a placement exam could be required before enrolling in some introductory courses. CHEM 1110R (0) will be required as a corequisite to CHEM 1110 if it is determined that additional support will benefit the student.
Courses with an asterisk (*) are those courses that may be substituted with courses through the first-year UB program with an additional 12 hours of electives to complete the RWC B.S. in either Chemistry or Biochemistry. The student must work closely with their advisor to ensure all requirements are met for the program.
