You may be eligible for additional certifications with just a couple more courses and exams!
These additional certifications expand your flexibility, increase job opportunities, and let you teach where you feel called.
Childhood (Grades 1-6) students can add the Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2)
Adolescence students can add the Middle School extension (Grades 5-6)

Early Childhood Additional Certification
If you've earned or are enrolled in a bachelor's/master's degree in Childhood & Special Education, you can add this certification.
You’ll be certified to teach Birth-Grade 2.
1) Take two additional summer courses:
- TEDU 3530 - Literacy in Early Childhood Classrooms
- TEDU 3720 - Early Childhood Curriculum and Methods
2) Pass two additional state certification exams:
- Multi-Subject Early Childhood Parts 1 and 2 - Learn More
Middle School Extension
If you’ve earned or are enrolled in a bachelor's/master's in Adolescence & Special Education, you can add this extension.
You’ll be certified to teach Grades 5-6 in your content area without any additional exams.
1) Choose a content area:
Choose between Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, English, French, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies, or Spanish.
2) Take 1-2 additional courses:
- For Pathway to Teaching and M.Ed. Adolescence students:
- TEDU 2600 - Learning and Development In Early Adolescence
- TEDU 3570 - Literacy in Middle and Adolescent Classroom
- For Traditional Undergraduate Adolescence students:
- TEDU 2600 - Learning and Development In Early Adolescence
