Roberts Celebrates First Organization to Rent Nursing Simulation Center
The Simulation Center at Roberts Wesleyan University School of Nursing is designed to enhance nursing education by simulating clinical practice. It features a variety of authentic clinical settings, including patient examination rooms, inpatient hospital rooms, and a labor and delivery suite, all equipped with medical tools and furnishings that mirror real clinical environments.
This state-of-the-art simulation lab provides opportunities to learn and practice immersive learning experiences for nursing and healthcare. CHS Mobile Integrated Healthcare, an EMS service in Monroe County, rented the center to allow them to practice taking patients from a realistic ICU room with full monitoring capability. Previously, many EMS agencies resorted to using conference rooms and massage tables to replicate a sending facility unit.
In this realistic environment, healthcare providers can perform patient care as they would in actual situations, using their equipment and uniforms while having partners and medical control available. This hands-on approach helps build the muscle memory necessary for treating and safely transporting critically ill patients.
CHS Healthcare provided the simulation coordinator and Roberts provided a faculty member as the bedside provider embedded into the simulation.
By collaborating with local EMS providers, Roberts enhances the ability to serve the community and maximize the use of its simulation resources, ultimately contributing to public health and well-being. This partnership also fosters relationships with the EMS providers that many Roberts Wesleyan University nursing students will work with in their future careers.
The Simulation Center offers four different room rental rates, starting at $150 for up to four hours. Optional add-ons include support staff, a simulations education specialist, high-fidelity manikins, and more.
