Inspiring Academic Excellence: Collaboration Center Named in Honor of Dr. A. Walter Kaufmann
The second-floor student lounge in Merlin G. Smith Hall was named the Kaufmann Collaboration Center in Jan. 2025 in honor of Dr. A. Walter Kaufmann, an educator and administrator at Roberts from 1957 to 1981. He was also instrumental in directing the planning for the Merlin G. Smith Science Center, completed in 1971.
"My father believed in the transformative power of education and the importance of creating an environment where students could learn from one another. He would be profoundly moved to see his legacy honored in this collaboration center – a place that embodies his lifelong commitment to fostering academic excellence through meaningful student interactions. His spirit of mentorship and dedication to student success will live on through this space," said Lon Kaufmann, son of Walter Kaufmann.
Our hope is that. Dr. Kaufmann's legacy of academic excellence and student-centered leadership will continue to inspire and empower students who utilize this collaborative space for academic exploration, research, and personal growth.
