How do I become an English teacher?
English teachers need at least a bachelor’s degree. The type of degree you can get is flexible – whether it be in elementary education, English, or a mix of the disciplines, like the Adolescence Education in English degree you can get at Roberts.
To become an English teacher, depending on the state, you might also need to complete additional steps such as a student-teaching experience or a state-registered preparation program.
Should I become an English teacher?
Being an English teacher can be a very fulfilling career for the right people. Some benefits include the opportunity to watch your students grow in their learning, aiding students to see situations from different points of view, and the opportunity to keep learning yourself.
How much do English teachers make?
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for middle and high school teachers in 2021 was about $61,000.

Can I meet with an Adolescence Education: English professor when I visit Roberts?
Yes! If you come to campus for an individual visit, you can meet individually with a professor to get an overview of the major and your individual questions answered. Our Discovery Day events typically include a Faculty & Services Expo, where you can meet your future professors.
