I was the Teaching Assistant for the Physics Lab... I thoroughly enjoyed just about every minute of it. Working with the students and helping them understand concepts and seeing the look of understanding when they grasped it was really a highlight of my day and what drew me further towards teaching.

Frequently Asked Questions

Physics, when put simply, is the study of the way God made the world.

It is a natural science that seeks to understand the fundamental principles governing the universe’s matter and energy. It aims to explain the behavior of the physical world. Subtopics within physics include mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, quantum, and relativity.

Physics teachers need at least a bachelor’s degree. The type of degree they get is flexible – whether it be in elementary education, physics, or a mix of the disciplines, like the Adolescence Education in Physics degree one can get at Roberts.

Many teachers do go on to obtain a master’s or even doctorate, as well. Some states such as New York, Maryland, and Connecticut require teachers to obtain their master’s degree in teaching or education in a certain amount of time to maintain their teacher’s license. Along with that, many districts pay teachers who obtain their master’s degrees more than those who don’t.

According to the US Bureau of Labor, the median annual wage for middle and high school teachers in 2021 was about $61,000.

Naturally, the numbers will differ by area, type of school, and position.
