What Will I Learn?
Upon graduating, you'll be ready to lead with competence and a global perspective. You’ll also be ready to pursue graduate studies in Education, History, or other related disciplines.
You’ll have a mentor in both the History and Teacher Education departments. You may be eligible for our 4+1 program with our Teacher Education master’s program.
You’ll graduate prepared to apply for New York State teaching certification in Social Studies for grades 7-12. You may choose to become certified in teaching:
- Social Studies for grades 5-6
- Dual certification in Adolescence Education Social Studies 7-12 and Students with Disabilities 7-12 (Generalists)
You’ll study:
- American, European, and non-Western history

What degree do you need to be a history teacher?
History and social studies teachers need at least a bachelor’s degree. The type of degree they get is flexible – whether it be in elementary education, history, or a mix of the disciplines, like the Adolescence Education in Social Studies degree you can get at Roberts.
