This program is designed for students who attend Roberts Wesleyan College for two years and then transfer to a professional program in forestry, pharmacy, or some other field requiring a general background in natural science and mathematics.
SPECIFICS OF THE NATURAL SCIENCE A.S. DEGREE
Minimum Total Hours: 62
Total Liberal Arts Hours Required: 31, Satisfied through general education and major requirements.
General Education Requirements: Students earning an Associate's degree complete a reduced list of Core Curriculum Requirements. See General Education Requirements for Associate Degree.
Minimum Requirements: Overall and major GPA of 2.0; no grade less than C- in the major.
Transfer Requirements: See institutional transfer policies.
Application to the Major: Standard institutional major application should be submitted by the beginning of the sophomore year. A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required for acceptance to the major.
Major Requirements: 35-36 hours as follows:
- 8 hours of biology with supporting labs: BIOL 1110, 1120;
- 16 hours of chemistry with supporting labs: CHEM 1110*, 1120, 2110, 2120;
- 8 hours of physics: PHYS 1001* and 1002, or PHYS 2001* and 2002;
- 3-4 hours of mathematics: MATH 1085, 2400, or 2281*;
- Recommended: One computer science course: CSCI 1010 or 2010.
Other courses may be recommended by the academic advisor, depending on the transfer program for which the student is preparing. (*Note: some introductory courses may require the passing of a placement exam before course registration).
