Roberts Hosted Relay for Life & Surpassed Goal

On Saturday, Sept. 22  Roberts Wesleyan College hosted the third annual Relay for Life on campus.  Students, staff and community members walked through the night to raise money for the American Cancer's Society's mission to save lives and celebrate life.  Roberts Wesleyan College senior Alex Marci was the project coordinator.

Alex Marci, a Senior Roberts student shares about her experience with Relay For Life:

"Relay For Life is an organization through the American Cancer Society that raises money for not only cancer research, but for the free housing of patients going through treatment, the free transportation to the facilities, and much more. This is our 3rd annual Relay For Life at Roberts and each year we have exceeded our goals. Our committee consists of seven students of all majors and this year is our first official year as a club. We start the planning and marketing of Relay in April. We try to bring awareness towards the community as well as the students before the spring semester ends. This year our goal was $6000 and we raised $8028.53!"

Ally Piazza, a Senior Roberts student elaborates on her passion for Relay for Life:

"I have been involved with Relay For Life since I was 12 years old. When I was a senior in high school, I myself had thyroid cancer. I had my thyroid removed and fortunately was perfectly okay, but my experience with cancer made me even more connected to, and appreciative of, the efforts of organizations like the American Cancer Society. Being able to coordinate an event like Relay For Life was incredibly humbling for me as I was given the opportunity to give back to so many people going through so much. This event and this organization do so much good and I am proud to have been a part of both of them.

Thank you to the hundreds of students and staff who walked through the night to raise money for the American Cancer Society! Read more in an article a local Rochester news provider here: https://www.rochesterfirst.com/…/roberts-wesleya…/1467464199
