The Great Northern American Solar Eclipse will occur in less than a month, and Rochester will be among the best places to view it!
What time is the eclipse? The solar eclipse will begin at 2:07 p.m. on April 8 in Rochester, when skywatchers will start to see the moon appear to move in front of the sun. The totality begins at 3:20 p.m., with the eclipse ending by 4:33, when the moon will have moved past the sun, returning the light to normal.
When was the last solar eclipse in Rochester? The last one was 98 years ago in 1925. The next time Rochester will see one will be 2144.
How long will it last? 3 minutes and 28 seconds
Is it safe to watch the eclipse? Partial solar eclipses and most total solar eclipses must be viewed through special lenses so as not to damage your eyes. However, during the three minutes when the moon will totally obscure the sun, glasses can be removed to look up at it with the naked eye.
