Since accounting is the “language of business,” students who major in accounting are prepared for many different careers in business.  This major specifically prepares students to enter careers in either public or private accounting. The Roberts accounting program is a CPA licensure qualifying program registered with New York State. Those students who are interested in CPA & public accounting may complete additional graduate coursework, earning a dual degree (B.S. in Accounting/M.S. in Strategic Leadership) and qualifying to take the uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.  The additional credit hours earned in the dual-degree program will qualify them to apply for the CPA license by meeting the 150 credit-hour requirement and providing the necessary experience. This program also prepares students interested in careers in managerial accounting (corporate, non-profit, or government) to take the Certificate in Management Accounting (CMA) exam.   The major builds on a strong faith-based and general education foundation with coursework in core business disciplines (management, accounting, marketing, finance, and economics) and advanced coursework in accounting (system & data integration, integrated strategic audit capstone case study).  Through a required internship, students are engaged in real-life learning and acquire hands-on experience at local businesses or non-profit organizations.


SPECIFICS OF THE ACCOUNTING B.S. DEGREE

Minimum Total Hours: 124

Total Liberal Arts Hours Required: 60

General Education Requirements: Per General Education list (see General Education Council). Exceptions: only one fine arts course is required; must take PSY 260 for the behavioral science requirement; must take ECN 201 for the history, economics, or social sciences requirement; Math requirement met through major.

Minimum Requirements: Overall and major GPA's of 2.5; no grade less than C- in the major; minimum grade of C- in CMC 105, CMP 101, and CMP 102.

Application to Major: Application to Major form can be secured from the Undergraduate Business Department and submitted during the second semester of the sophomore year.    A minimum grade of C- in all courses within the major is required for acceptance to the major.  Minimum overall and major GPA's of 2.5 are required to be accepted and to remain in the major.  Falling below an overall or major GPA of 2.5 removes students from the major and precludes them from taking upper-level courses.

SPECIFICS OF THE M.S. IN STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP DEGREE

Minimum Total Hours:  31

Requirements for Advanced Standing:  Cumulative GPA of 3.2 by the end of junior year; Documented plan for completion of both undergraduate and graduate degree after meeting with Undergraduate Advisor and Graduate Program Director; Equivalent of one-year Full-time work experience. Students with less employment experience may apply.  However, admittance into the program will require an interview with the Program Director.
